Winter Crisis Program

Are you in danger of having your heat disconnected? You may be eligible to receive assistance with your heating bill through the Winter Crisis Program, part of the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).

The Winter Crisis Program provides a one-time emergency gas/electric payment to eligible households that are without heat, in danger of having their heat disconnected, or in danger of running out of fuel in their tank.

Who Is Eligible?

●      Total household income must be at or below 175% of federal poverty guidelines
●      Gas and/or electric service is currently off, in disconnection status, or needs started
●      Bulk fuel (propane, fuel oil, wood, coal, etc.) is at 25% or less

How Do I Apply?

●      The program runs from November 1 to March 31.

What Do I Need To Bring To My Appointment?

●      Proof of income for 13 weeks and/or 1 year
●      Social Security numbers for everyone in the household
●      Dates of birth for all household members
●      Disconnect notice for gas and/or electric
●      Bulk fuel at 25% or less of the tank’s capacity
●      Case number from the Department of Job and Family Services
●      Current utility statements and/or invoices
●      Renters need to bring the name, address, and phone number of your landlord
